Exchange seeds freely in your library!

The seed library lets you exchange organic, reproducible seeds from vegetable plants, herbs, and flowers that you’ve harvested from your own gardens.
The aim is to reproduce and share seeds from plants that are suited to the local area, with a view to maintaining biodiversity and protecting the environment, while strengthening social ties by raising public awareness of seed exchange and production in order to promote healthy eating for all.
How do I use the seed library?
The seed library is based on bartering
This system does not have to be simultaneous and operates on a self-service basis:
- in the spring, you borrow seeds and grow the plant;
- in the autumn, you collect the seeds from the plant and bring some of them back to the seed library.
You don't need to have a large vegetable garden or already harvest your own seeds to participate!
How do you give seeds?
- Come to the Environment Library to drop off any seeds you have left over or pick up seeds left by someone else.
- Fill the bag provided for this purpose (ideally) or use a clean container (jar, envelope, tea box, etc.).
- Fill in an information sheet about the seeds you are depositing (date and place of seed harvest, growing tips, etc.).

You do not need to be enrolled at the university to use the seed library
However, you can register with the libraries as an external user to access our resources and services !
Where can I find the seed library?
The main seed library was created in 2023 and is located the Environment Library, on the Arlon campus.
A mobile seed library has also been created. It is available to anyone who wishes to use it for educational or promotional purposes (conferences, courses, activities, etc.).
Access to the seed library is available during library opening hours.

How can I participate in the project?
The seed library is a community-based, collective project. If you have ideas for activities or a little time to come and fold bags, sort seeds, etc., any help is welcome! Please do not hesitate to contact us or visit us!

Don’t miss our activies
To keep the seed library alive, the library organises and participates in events (La Quinzaine du Climat, Le Printemps de la Grainothèque, Slow Festival).
Activities are organised according to the seasons, mainly in spring and autumn. In spring, the seed library comes out of hibernation and empties itself for sowing and planting throughout the summer. In autumn, it fills up with seeds harvested and deposited by participants.
